Description:
With the largest
overall surface area in the Metron lineup, the M:ex is our most
free-ride oriented model. BetaPuls titanium smoothes the beast's hit,
letting you power high octane turns through wind-scoured crust to chunky
crud.
Think total all-mountain freedom.
The M:ex is a wide
all-mountain ski with stellar carving performance and the kind of
sophisticated construction that guarantees a smooth, precise ride in
chop or chattery hardpack.
The ski is fat underfoot- with an 84mm waist,
it’s almost as wide as a powder ski, and wider than most
high-performance all-mountain boards. The EX, like the B5, combines that
fat waist with the deep sidecut and sophisticated technology of a modern
race carver.
If you’re looking for a wider soft snow ski and you prefer more carved
turns to wide open bombing, if you like the modern carving skis on hard
snow, this is the one to check out.
The Metron really shines arcing
turns in crud, windbuff or chopped-up semi-packed powder- the sidecut
and phenomenal torsional rigidity allow you to lock in and slice through
chunks and bumps, while the heavy-duty construction, lifter plate and
multiple damping technologies keep the ski quiet and smooth.
It is a lot
of ski though; they ski big and can be difficult to skid when the going
gets tricky. Like the modern race skis, they should be skied short -
175cm for average sized, aggressive, athletic skiers.
The M:EX is one of the most sophisticated skis on the market, combining
a fourth or fifth-generation cap design (arguably the best on the
market) with mechanical damping arms (like Salomon uses), tubular metal
cores and shaped metal layers in the cap, and a free-flex plate (now
compatible with most bindings).
The deep shape and wide footprint would
be fun in soft stuff regardless, but all damping technology really
shines in choppy or chattery snow - they feel supple and smooth, glued to
the snow and powerful.
They also carry speed like a race ski.
The idea is to give a ski with all the power and smoothness of a race
ski the versatility of a fat ski.
New for 2006:
BetaPuls Titanium uses Ti pulsers
whose tips are embedded in Kevlar transmitters.
The Pulsers channel
power from the chassis directly to the tip and tail for quick handling,
and move independently for superb torsional rigidity and exceptional
edge hold.
But because only a portion of the topsheet is titanium,
you'll experience a complient shovel for smooth, effortless turning.
Also new, BetaPuls Carbon uses the
same Pulser shape as BetaPuls Titanium, but with a hybrid elastomer/carbon
fiber weave (Carbon Tex) that quells vibration, tips effortlessly into
turns and transfers power to the control areas of the ski.
BetaPuls Carbon Tex:
Made of carbon fiber infused with a space-age elastomer. Carbon tex
Pulsers transfer power to the control areas in the tip and tail and
provide the silkiest ride this side of a Tastee Freeze.
Carbon Step 25:
The weave in Carbon Step 25 is computer-designed and oriented to control
twisting of Metron's ultra-wide shape. At the same time, its structure
allows the perfect amount of longitudinal flex.
