Watea "101" :

At 101mm under the foot there’s no doubt this ski will float in the Powder but the carbon fiber I-Beams ensure they’ll also hold on the hard stuff…because sadly its not waist deep everyday.

The new I-Beam technology full fills the two most important requirements that a free-ride ski has to face - low weight and high stability. This is made possible by cutting grooves into the wood core for weight reduction, whereas the special-purpose carbon I-profiles ensure extremely high stability.

The result is a ski that, thanks to its stable construction, makes light work of all off-piste challenges. Moreover the low ski weight guarantees optimum handling and perfect performance at all times, in all situations and conditions.

citizenski.com:  With Fischer you always expect engineering innovation and although introduced last season and featuring a refreshed graphic for 2008/09 the Watea 101 provide an excellent balance of flex, weight and strength through the I-Beam construction.

Super-stable through the wood-iBeam core, the wood has two separate carbon fibre channels running through to lower weight yet provide more stability. On-snow the 101’s are still big skis with 134-101-124 dimensions so they aren’t built for “wall-flowers” but the ski remains agile and re-assuringly powerful through crud and chopped-up conditions on the steeps.

The tough sandwich construction is predictable, solid but not “dead”, the graphics fair and in general this is a great ski for the serious back-country skier looking for high-speed thrills, excellent levels of float and a powerful ally in the face of some tough conditions.

Sandwich sidewall construction: A unique concept in ski core manufacturing that gives the entire ski construction the ultimate in stability. The Sandwich Sidewall Construction is the result of an intelligent layered core structure made of poplar and beechwood, featuring a dual Titanal shell and sidewalls that give the ski edges perfect support and make them harder and more durable. The sidewalls are responsible for transferring skiing forces straight to the steel edges which means that the skis can be ridden extremely dynamically and directly. The improved shock absorption is an additional plus in this ski construction.
